In the second interview in our new series, we are delighted to introduce you to Priyanka Kreutzer, another member of our growing team of home-based Holiday Fixers.

What inspired you to become a Holiday Fixer?

Travelling is a very important part of my life.  I’ve always prioritised and loved spending any precious annual leave I have from my career as a Management Accountant, visiting and exploring new places around the world.

A few years ago, my husband and I met Britt at a forum and as a result started to book our holidays with her help.  When talking about her business Britt mentioned that she wanted to expand her team of Holiday Fixers, so when we were stuck at home during the pandemic I decided to do some research into what it involves to work as a travel agent.  After discovering that I didn’t have to have any previous experience and it wouldn’t compromise my day job, I signed up and haven’t looked back.

What do you enjoy most about being a Holiday Fixer?

I really like being creative.  Researching and booking holidays is completely different from my day job and gives me a real buzz.  Being a “Holiday Fixer” is great fun and is enormously satisfying.

What in particular drives you to be successful?

I am spurred on by the many different enquiries I get.  I really enjoying encouraging my clients to think outside the box, making their holiday unique and giving that little bit extra, knowing that I have helped to influence their choices.

Do you and your family have a favourite place to go on holiday?

We actually don’t have a favourite place but we love to try and visit one new country each year and have different experiences.  When we holiday, we really do enjoy a mix – exploring where we are staying, indulging in a bit of culture and also having time to relax.  For instance, our last family holiday over the summer combined a mix of city life in Singapore with island-hopping in Indonesia, where there was so much do and see.  Plenty of gorgeous beaches and even an opportunity to go Komodo Dragon hunting!  For me, a great holiday is all about having a good balance.  Enough downtime to read a book, visit the local sights, eat well, beach and pool time for the children and try some new things as a family.

What type of holiday do you find your customers tend to book – relaxing, active or a mix?

Most of my customers are couples or families and when I first started booking holidays for them post Covid, understandably most played safe by booking one location, all inclusive options.  However,  I love that my clients are becoming more adventurous and I’ve had a bigger variety of enquiries this past year.  For example, Greek island hopping holidays seem to be very on trend at the moment and also Finnish Lapland is popular, as well as something slightly out of the norm like heading to Namibia or The Gambia.

I’ve also seen an increase in customers who are looking to holiday somewhere warm outside the peak summer months, where they can unwind, not too far away and is good value for money.  Right now, Turkey ticks all the boxes and is a very popular destination.

Weekend city breaks are always popular.  Is there a particular city you would recommend?

I would always recommend Seville for a group of friends or couples.  It is really affordable, has many beautiful historical places to visit and there is a great choice of places to eat and a fun night life.

And, if you like your food (as I do!) San Sebastian has some of the most affordable Michelin star restaurants in Europe, delicious pintxos and also a fantastic beach that you can head to either before or after all the indulging.

My final recommendation is Ljubljana, Slovenia’s capital and largest city and one of Europe’s greenest.  It is really pretty and is car free in the centre with plenty to keep you occupied for a weekend.  In the summer, the cafes have seating on the terraces overlooking the river which gives it a lovely party atmosphere.  Not far from the city you can visit and explore in and around beautiful Lake Bled.

Many of us have a travel “bucket list”.  Do you have one, or if you were to create one, which country would be top of your list, and why?

Patagonia!  Whilst not strictly a country as it is a region covering two countries – Argentina and Chile – its outdoorsy offering appeals to me.  It’s totally different to any place I’ve been to before, with its wild, dramatic landscapes, the simply astonishing Perito Moreno Glacier, the largest penguin colony in South America and Ushuaia, “the end of the world”.  Well, sort of, since Ushuaia’s port is the jumping-off point for Antarctic cruises and there’s nowhere farther south to go than the seventh continent, right?  The Antarctic being the last continent to tick off was potentially a bucket list contender, but I think Patagonia has a fair bit more to offer and is more affordable too (well, right now it is!).
